Mastering Photography Through Videography

Most of the professional DSLRs now have very good video capabilities. Whenever, I get a chance I try to capture videos during my portrait, wedding, and nature photo-shoots. Shooting videos has helped me improve my composition in photography. The live view makes it very easy to monitor the background and get the right lighting on the subject.

I would like to share this macro nature video with you. These clips have been shot over a period of 5 years. Here is an example of the set-up used for the hummingbird video clips: I made a hole in a large white cardboard and placed my macro lens through it. This had three advantages: 1) The light was reflecting back on my subject. 2) I was just a few inches away from the feeder and was able to hide behind the cardboard. 3) The cardboard also shielded me from the harsh sunlight.
