Thank you Mr. Limo Driver!

Sometimes, the best scene is hidden right behind you. While shooting the Camille & John wedding in Puerto Rico last year I almost missed what turned out to be one of my favorite shots of the wedding. I drove in the limo with bride and groom from the church to the magnificent mansion know as Castillo Serralles which was the venue for their reception. I quickly go out of the limo and fired this test shot:

I was about to press the shutter again for the main shot when somebody behind me very politely whispered that I should shoot from the other side. As soon as I turned around I immediately realized what I was about to miss. I quickly ran to the other side of the limo and asked them to recreate this shot:

Planning is the key in producing great storytelling photographs. Whenever you can, you must capture the image in your head before you capture it in your camera. If you don’t have time to capture it in your head then listen to your limo driver. Thank you Mr. Limo Driver!
